In the early years Holly launched her career as a documentary filmmaker and quickly became one of Canada's most notable documentarian. Her documentaries have been exhibited in major film festivals and received theatrical first run distribution around the world. Some of the larger cities include CHICAGO, BERLIN, TORONTO, MONTREAL, SYDNEY, NEW YORK, PARIS, LONDON, LOS ANGELES, ISRAEL, and TOKYO. Her international success led to Norman Jewison inviting her to be his Director Observer on AGNES of GOD. That experience translated into her being chosen to be among the first twelve residents of Jewison’s CANADIAN CENTRE FOR ADVANCE FILM STUDIES (Canada’s version of the AFI). While there she directed her first feature film BLOOD & DONUTS with David Cronenberg as one of the cast members. This was also the first feature film produced out of the CANADIAN CENTRE FOR ADVANCE FILM STUDIES. Shortly after that Holly’s highly successful hard hitting Movie of the Week DANGEROUS OFFENDER was nominated for 7 Gemini nominations from the ACADEMY OF CANADIAN CINEMA and TELEVISION including BEST PICTURE and BEST DIRECTING. It also went on to receive a CHRIS AWARD at the COLUMBUS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. Some of Holly’s personal achievements include the TORONTO ARTS AWARD CITY AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN MEDIA ARTS, the CANADIAN FILM AND TELEVISION ASSOCIATION’S THEATRICAL PRODUCERS ACHIEVEMENT AWARD, and the TORONTO SUN’S WOMAN OF THE YEAR AWARD for OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT. Before Holly became a dramatic film director in the late eighties she had worked on a numerous dramatic films in may job capacities, as editor, director of photography, assistant director, and producer. She also has given many acting workshops and lecturers at Universities through the world including Harvard and Browns University. This diverse education has embellished her craft as a director.
